Team South Africa has emerged victorious from the GS Trophy 2016 competition. They managed a 31 point lead over the UK and Germany – with a final score of 299!

John Harris, Byron Coetsee and Charl Moolman were the men behind the extraordinary victory at the GS Trophy 2016. They were in the lead from Day 2 but had to push hard to maintain it. In fact, the competition was so close, it was the first year that two teams (Germany and UK) tied for second place.

Having come so close to the Trophy several times before, even missing it by one point in 2010, the victory has meant a great deal for the rider community of South Africa. “Relief is the first emotion, then happiness,” Byron Coetsee explains. “We share this achievement with our previous GS Trophy team riders.”

Alexander Baraka, General Manager of BMW Motorrad South Africa added, “The International GS Trophy is a showcase of riding skills and team spirit and Team South Africa rose to the challenge. We have always performed well at the Trophy but this victory confirms that the calibre of South African riders is world-class”.
