The Geneva Motor Show set the stage for BMW to unveil its plans for future mobility, and celebrate the resounding success of the BMW i brand.

The Geneva Motor Show takes place annually at the Geneva Palexpo in Switzerland. It’s a major date for any car manufacturer worth their salt, and of course a highlight for fans of leading vehicle brands.

The show has built a reputation over the years of being the ideal event to unveil concept models and reveal new developments. And the 86th year of the show certainly isn’t an exception. In fact, as this is the centenary year for BMW, fans are being treated to a full line-up of new BMW models and features at the show.

Sporting luxury

With the BMW 7 Series already on the market, BMW has unveiled the new BMW M760Li xDrive to attendees of the event. Being the flagship model of the range, it boasts the first ever M Performance TwinPower Turbo 12-cylinder petrol engine. Not only does it generate 441 kW, but sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. This makes the new model not only the pinnacle of luxury, but formidably sporty too.

BMW iPerformance

BMW fans can also learn more about the new iPerformance model designation, which will be given to all BMW plug-in hybrid vehicles from July 2016, starting with the new BMW 740e. The iPerformance models will benefit from the transfer of technical expertise between BMW i and the BMW core brand. This includes electric motors, battery cells and electronic control systems. Visible indicators of an iPerformance model will be the BMW i logo on the front side panel, BMW i-style blue elements in the kidney grille and wheel hubs, and an eDrive logo on the C-pillar.

Meet the BMW M2

Attendees of the Geneva Motor Show also have the chance to be properly acquaint with the dashing new BMW M2, which will take to the stage with BMW M Performance Parts. A wide variety of components will be available for the compact high-performance sports machine, with each one enhancing its dynamics and individualising its design.

Limited Edition i8

BMW i also unveiled the first of its series of limited edition BMW i8 models with the BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition. The model is testament to the phenomenal success BMW i has achieved with it being the largest market presence of any premium supplier of electric vehicles worldwide; and with the BMW i8 having received the most diverse set of accolades and awards to date.

More from ConnectedDrive

BMW of course remains focussed on developing new technologies, and the latest of these can be found in the ConnectedDrive On-Street Parking Information intelligent search function. The feature, which helps drivers to quickly locate a free parking space in cities, is another attraction on display at the event.
