We’ve come to expect a certain level of high-end dynamic performance from BMW. And it is certainly no different in the innovative BMW i3. It is the Group’s first vehicle that is motorised purely by electric power.
The BMW i3 allows you a range of up to 200 kilometers in everyday conditions, a higher storage capacity from the lithium ion cells and 33 kilowatt (kWh), are ownness to this ability.
Not even the elements can turn down this pocket of innovation’s battery life. Running your heater or air conditioner at maximum comfort will not deter its deliverance of 200 kilometers in one single charge.
The BMW i3 is both the sportiest and most efficient electric vehicle in its segment. This green machine pushes out 125 kW which propels it from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds, by only using an electricity consumption of 12.9 kWh/100 km (NEDC).
But cast your eye to its modular and flexible design, and you’ll notice it’s no wonder it is the best-selling premium electric vehicle in its division!
As of July 2016 BMW South Africa will start to roll out solar carports, this innovative solution will bring further reduction on charging costs. The BMW i solar carport delivers an average of 3,6kW of solar power (at peak times on a clear, sunny day) straight to the BMW i Wallbox. This wall box shows you how much power is being generated by the sun to charge electric and plug-in hybrid BMW models.
The BMW solar carports have two housing options: the solar carport is made from high-end bamboo and the glass solar modules consist of stainless steel. Both carports are in line with BMW i design and production philosophy which prioritises a zero carbon footprint.
We can look forward to the coming months as Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban will have public charging ports in the city centres.
