The new BMW 2 Series Coupé and Convertible have almost landed in SA and they’re set to raise the bar in the Premium Compact segment – we take a look at why.
Set to launch in South Africa in September, the new 2 Series Coupé and Convertible are a stylish update to the BMW Model Range. At a glance new design elements and new LED lights add another layer to the cars’ presence and elegance – but there’s so much more to see and experience.
A model BMW
At 4,432 millimetres in length, the BMW 2 Series Coupe and BMW 2 Series Convertible condense their sporting prowess into a compact package. Both models are now fitted as standard with bi-LED headlights, with the option adding full-LED to create an instantly dynamic impression. Combined with the hexagonal headlight-look and larger kidney grilles; the new 2 Series models have a modern, sporty feel.
The outer air intakes in the three-section front end are now larger and emphasise the cars’ powerful stance on the road. The rear end likewise cuts a muscular figure, the single-piece rear lights (LEDs as standard) with hallmark BMW L-shape extending well into the flanks.
For the individual
For the connoisseurs, there will be 3 new colour variants to choose from: Mediterranean Blue, Seaside Blue and Sunset Orange.
The interior has been transformed with the all-new design of the instrument panel and a high-resolution 8.8-inch central display. The new BMW 2 Series Coupe and BMW 2 Series Convertible user interface will also come in touchscreen form if the optional Navigation system Professional is specified.
This is just a sneak peak of the view you can expect from the cockpit:
You can also look forward to a new generation of connectivity, with the latest iDrive operating system, an integrated SIM and the option of powering smartphones wirelessly. Not only does it mean a more seamless connection with your phone, you also have optimum access to BMW ConnectedDrive services and the option of driver assist systems like Active Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning and City Collision Mitigation.
Under the hood
Whether you’re looking for fuel efficient power, or an unadulterated race feel – you’ll find it in the new BMW 2 Series Coupé and Convertible models. You can choose between three-, four- and six-cylinder engines, producing outputs from 100 kW to 250 kW (fuel consumption combined: 8.3 – 3.8 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 189 – 101 g/km).
The petrol engines are from the latest BMW EfficientDynamics while the diesel engines feature new turbocharger technology and enhanced common-rail direct injection systems. You’ll also have the option of a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission – depending on the model you choose.
The following models will be available in South Africa:
Coupe – BMW 220i, BMW 230i, BMW 220d, BMW M240i
Convertible – BMW 220i, BMW 230i, BMW M240i
