BMW i has joined forces with TED to bring you the NextVisionaries ideas competition. If you’re full of pioneering ideas and concepts, this is your opportunity to shape the future of mobility.

Innovation doesn’t just happen, it is the direct result of future-thinking individuals who challenge the norm and dare to improve it. It’s exactly the thinking that BMW i was built on, and the reason that TED Talks earn roughly a billion views each year.

The NextVisionaries competition was launched in the spirit of visionary thinking and pioneering action, uniting BMW i and the TED community and giving the future of mobility a platform.

How it works

If you have vehicle and technological concepts, hardware and software solutions, or ideas for products and services that have the potential to shape the face of personal transport in tomorrow’s world, this one is for you.

You can submit your applications online at nextvisionaries.com. Environment-friendly mobility-related processes that conserve resources, as well as strategies for creating a society geared towards personal mobility requirements are also welcome.

All entries will be reviewed and 6 will be shortlisted and given the opportunity to refine their concepts and ideas, with the help of experts from BMW i and TED, before their live pitch in front of a panel of judges at The International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt this September.

The prize

Thanks to its alliance with TED, BMW i, the winning idea will reach audiences far beyond the motor industry. In fact winning visionary will be given the opportunity to present their idea from the TED stage in New York in November 2017.

First, though, they will undergo comprehensive public speaking coaching in preparation for their very own TED Talk.

The perfect partnership

Since its establishment in 1984, TED has stood by the concept of making “Ideas worth Sharing” free and available to the public. There are more than 2,400 TED Talks available for free on TED.com, with close to 100,000 published translations of TED Talks in over 110 languages.

It was a natural choice for BMW i to partner with them, considering our own involvement in BMW i Ventures, a programme that helps selected initiatives and start-ups to develop and implement trailblazing ideas for mobility.

“Ever since the founding of project i ten years ago, BMW i has been a visionary pioneer. This spirit of visionary thinking and pioneering action unites BMW i and the TED community.” explains Hildegard Wortmann, Senior Vice President Brand BMW.

We are not only excited to see what the future holds, but to actively play a part of shaping it through the NextVisionaries competition. Even if you’re not planning on entering personally, the website offers the latest news and ideas on mobility and is definitely worth a visit.
