Now you don’t need to envision the sports car of the future. It’s here!  It’s a technological masterpiece that is born to stand out.

BMW i has lead the way to revolutionise the sports car of the future.  We’ve amped up the future by being thought leaders in the automotive industry.  Perhaps this will encourage other car manufacturers to follow in our footsteps.

Even though the BMW i8 is a plug-in hybrid vehicle, it certainly plays on the style and characteristics of a dynamic supercar.

Driving this unique 266kW superbeast is bound to encourage attention, which is all delivered from the car’s plug-in hybrid technology system: 170kW propels the rear wheels while the front axle is charged by the lithium-ion battery at a whopping 96kW.  This is felt in the 570 Nm of torque which gives you 2.1 l/km of fuel consumption for pushing it to its abilities.  A three-cylinder turbocharged engine and electric-driving system allows you to feel its unparalleled power whilst holding the trust of its pure driving pleasure.  So you get the best of both worlds: the power and drive of a supercar with the fuel efficiency of a compact car.

As part of BMW’s dedication to sustainability, the car emits 49g/km CO2 as compared to a normal sedan of 122g/km.  This is due to the efficient BMW eDrive technology.  Naturally, you would be urged to take it out onto the open road.  The road-handling is agile and the ride smooth due to its intelligent lightweight carbon fibre construction and aerodynamic design, epitomising extraordinary driving experience that takes you from 0 to 100km in just 4.4 seconds!

The BMW i8 is already the world’s most successful hybrid sports car: global sales have surpassed the collective figure of all other hybrid sports cars produced by other car manufacturers.  And true to BMW form, the BMW i8 is the first vehicle in its class to receive this many awards in such a short period of time in various disciplines since it entered the market in 2014.  To name a few:

  • International Engine of the Year award for both its TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine and overall hybrid technology system.
  • Paul Pietsch Award in recognition of the most innovative technical concept.
  • It was also voted World Green Car of the Year and Green Luxury Car.

The International Engine of the Year award is a substantial win and goes to show the powerful performance possibility of the Efficient Dynamics technology.  And this is the second year running that we have prevailed in the 1.4-litre to 1.8-litre displacement category in this year’s competition.

While BMW gives you sheer driving pleasure, the BMW i8 offers you progressive driving pleasure!  What do you think of the BMW i8?  Tell us in the comment box below.
